What's on 

The Chelmsford Division meetings are often held on the third Monday of each month at the Link Hall, Methodist Church, Rainsford Road, Chelmsford CM1 2XB
(opposite the County Hotel).  During the summer, some meetings are replaced by events: please check below or on the home page for latest details.

The hall is opposite the Chelmsford County Hotel and about 2 minutes' walk from the Railway Station. Meetings start at 7.30pm and we will do our best
to make you feel welcome.

The Way Forward

In our first meeting in 2010 we shall be discussing strategies to help your beekeeping year get off to a good start. This will include:- when to re-queen and why; sterilising after winter losses; and for new beekeepers, getting ready for your first bees.

Beekeeping Tales

Join us to hear some of our members tell a tale or two about their successes and failures in beekeeping. Some of these will make you laugh and some you may find helpful in your future beekeeping.

Introduction to Mead Making

I
f you have ever thought of making mead but never got around to it, this is a meeting for you. Richard Alabone will be talking about the historical background to making mead and Eric Fenner will describe what equipment is needed and how to produce your first bottle of mead.

How Does Your Garden Grow?

We are very pleased to invite you to a private tour lead by Ian Le Gros, the Curator of the beautiful RHS gardens at Hyde Hall. In the event of inclement weather we will be given a presentation in the Events Barn.  Numbers are strictly limited so please contact Jean (07731 856 361) by 10th May to confirm your place.

Best Offer Table Top Sale

If you have Items of beekeeping equipment you no longer require or if you want to pick up a bargain, come and join us at Chelmsford’s table top sale. Everybody is more than welcome.

Disease tour
Starting around 10 am, we will join the regional bee inspector and our divisional disease liaison officer to visit a number of apiaries in and around the Chelmsford area. This is a great opportunity to see inside a number of hives belonging to other bee keepers and also have your hives examined professionally and gain free advice on both disease control and the care of your bees. Garden Meeting and Picnic
(This meeting is for members of the Chelmsford Division and their partners.) Please bring your own garden chairs and drinks and liaise with Jean as to what food you would like to bring to contribute to the picnic.  Please contact Jean on 07731 856 361.

September 2010
There will be no Divisional Meeting this month, as many of you will be busy preparing for the Essex Honey Show at “Barleylands”. The show is held over two days (11th & 12th September) and is a great way to get a professional judgment regarding the quality of your produce.It is also a fantastic day out for you and the family with fun and attractions to cater for everyone. There is much work involved in setting up and running the honey show, if you would like to help or contribute, this would be greatly appreciated - please contact Jean for details on 07731856361

Divisional Supper
This month we will be having the Divisional Supper on Friday 19th November, where we will be sharing fish and chips (dessert and a glass of wine included) followed by Paul’s famous raffle. Tickets priced £xxxxx- please make sure to contact Ian Grant 01277 652855 in good time to reserve your plaice.
